Kamakura Great Buddha / Kotoku-in (Kamakura City)
This majestic Great Buddha is the only Buddhist statue in Kamakura designated as a National Treasure. Standing 11.31 meters tall—or 13.35 meters including its pedestal —and weighing about 121 tons, it has an awe-inspiring presence. If you look closely, you can spot faint traces of gold leaf on its surface. It’s said that when the statue was first created, it shone brilliantly under a full coating of gold, making its current serene appearance even more remarkable.
Hase-dera Temple (Kamakura City)
During hydrangea season, the temple becomes the famous “Hydrangea Path,” filled with over 2,500 hydrangeas in more than 40 varieties that brighten the entire area with beautiful colors. You can also look for the three “Good Match Jizō” statues hidden around the grounds. It is said that finding all three will bless you with good relationships. Each statue is very small, so enjoy the search as you take in the lovely scenery.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (Kamakura City)
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, closely tied to Minamoto no Yoritomo, has stood for about 800 years and remains one of Kamakura’s most iconic spots. The shrine comes to life every April with the Kamakura Festival, and in September you can experience the thrilling Yabusame ritual, where samurai shoot arrows from horseback at full speed—a powerful glimpse into Japan’s ancient traditions.
Komachi Street (Kamakura City)
Komachi Street is a foodie paradise, packed with unique shops and irresistible takeout treats. From beloved classics to creative snacks you can only find here, the street is bursting with delicious discoveries at every turn. Enjoy strolling, snacking, and exploring all the tasty surprises Komachi Street has to offer!
Enoshima (Fujisawa City)
Enoshima, one of Shonan’s iconic seaside spots, is famous for its ocean views, relaxed island vibe, and vibrant food scene. Cross the bridge to discover charming shops, coastal cafés, and the aroma of freshly made “Tako Senbei.” Enjoy seafood specialties like whitebait bowls and the Enoshima Bowl. In winter, the island sparkles during Shonan’s Jewels, one of Kanto’s most stunning illumination events, blending nature, culture, and seaside charm into an unforgettable experience.
